The winners of the Seventeenth Annual Austin Chronicle Short Story contest will be announced at BookPeople at 7pm on Wednesday, February 11. You are invited to hear the first-, second-, and third- place winners read their short stories at the special reception. Honorable mentions will also be announced. Refreshments and light hors d’oeuvres will be served.
In 2008, over 475 people submitted their short story for consideration, and five people will be recognized for their work. All the manuscripts submitted were the original work of the contestant and have never before been published. The first-place winner’s story will be published in the February 13, 2009 issue of The Austin Chronicle.

I’m about to turn 27 years old. I don’t really know what that means or how grown up I’m supposed to feel or behave given the strange achievement of aging. I mean, shit. I suppose I should have a Masters Degree and my eye on a linear, defined career. For some reason that’s just not my path. But that’s not to say my aspirations wouldn’t blow your mind.
These two are probably siblings. She’s obviously way more contemplative, a dreamer if you will, while he’s easily amused and eagerly anticipating the day he can grow a sick handlebar.
I can’t help but drool in marvel over smart minimalistic design. In my book these houses go above and beyond basics with their beautiful architecture, while simultaneously showcasing a respect for natural surroundings. Of course, their price tag is suitably way out of any foreseeable attainability for me, but window shopping fits my budget just fine. Here’s a peek at some of the well crafted works that have been delighting my inner architecture enthusiast. (Also, you should probably note that I know just about as much in the field of architecture as George Castanza.)
