On the heels of the hotly debated Texas SBOE science TEKS revisions, and on the anniversaries of Darwin’s birth and the Origin of Species’ publication, comes a diplomacy effort in the science/religion struggle with evolution. This promises to be Austin’s premiere Darwinmania event!
The world premiere of
The E Word: A Playground Adaptation
A tender comedy with songs!
National figures are paying attention:
“Like NOVA meets Barney. You’ll never look at Darwin’s finches the same way again. Sparlin has delivered a lovely message that is topical and poignant.”
– Chris Castillo Comer,
former Director of Science for the Texas Education Agency
“If you’ve ever wondered why the ‘E word’ matters, or why preachers, politicians and teachers battle endlessly over Darwin’s great idea, your questions are tackled in Sparlin’s new play. Questions that flow effortlessly, just as they should, from the mouths of babes.”
author of Only a Theory: Evolution and the Battle for America’s Soul
“At this time in history, few things are more important than celebrating the truth, beauty and utility of an evolutionary worldview. Sparlin masterfully accomplishes this in ‘The E Word’. Brilliant!”
author of Thank God for Evolution: How the Marriage of Science and Religion Will Transform Your Life and Our World
Statewide/Locally this project has the support of:
Clare Wuellner, Executive Director, Center For Inquiry Austin
Steven Schafersman, President, Texas Citizens for Science
Ryan Valentine, Deputy Director, Texas Freedom Network
Join a class of insatiably curious kindergarteners as they try to answer the big questions about science and religion. There’s make believe mayhem as they become finches, tortoises, barnacles, beetles, Eve and Newton! We are along on their journey as the children struggle with the answers they find; the same struggles we still wrestle with as adults.
Not appropriate for children under 12.
